- Description
- Design for the salon, Sugar Suite, which has been shortlisted in the Australian Interior Design Awards; shortlisted in the Estetica Design Awards (International, Italy); and awarded 'Best New Salon Design' at the 22nd Australian Hairdressing Awards. The salon’s interior is constructed from seamless curved walls, suspended from the ceiling, wrapping and subdividing the space into a number of sinuous chambers. This liquefied space creates spatial uncertainty that is further exaggerated through the use of flush mirrors and voids, located asymmetrically so that a network of reflected views provides a visual field filled with otherwise hidden parts of the space. This ambiguity makes the physical boundaries of the space difficult to determine; the floor remains as a solid plane for the collection of hair and provides the only visual datum for the actual expanse of space.
